England beat Sri Lanka by 119 runs in the opening T20 of the Southampton series as Harry Brook smashed 114 not out from 49 balls. Brook’s innings came after a summer without a Test hundred and featured power hitting to all parts of the ground. England posted 254-4 in their full 20 overs, with Jos Buttler adding 80 off 44 deliveries. Sri Lanka were all out for 135 in 19 overs. Their top scorer was Wellalage with 33 off 21 balls, while bowler Baker claimed three wickets for 12 runs. Brook’s blitz drew immediate comparisons with former England star Kevin Pietersen, who similarly dominated limited‑overs games. The margin of 119 runs is one of the biggest in a T20 between the two sides. England’s aggressive chase set a high bar for the rest of the series.
