India Ranks Among Six Nations With Severely Limited Academic Freedom

Academic freedom in India is severely restricted according to the 'Free to Think 2026' report by Scholars at Risk. The international network that tracks attacks on higher education pointed to growing government control over university governance. The report also noted strict limits on student expression and protests along with cases involving faculty members. Because of these factors India recorded a sharp drop in its academic freedom score.
