US Inflation Spike Revives Fed Rate‑Hike Talk While Indian Markets Stay Priced‑In

US producer‑price index jumped the most in four‑and‑a‑half years in September, marking the steepest rise in inflation since the COVID pandemic and reviving talk of a Fed rate increase. The rise signals inflation spreading beyond energy, and analysts say it could push the Federal Reserve to lift rates by 25 basis points at its October meeting, a move already priced into Indian markets through December 2026. Experts argue the impact on the Nifty 50, Sensex and Bank Nifty will be minimal because Dalal Street has factored in the possible hike. They also note that higher US inflation may pressure the Trump administration to curb Treasury yields or print more dollars, both of which could weaken the dollar but benefit Indian equities and gold. Anuj Gupta, a SEBI‑registered market expert, warned that rising US inflation combined with falling job creation creates uncertainty for the US economy. He said the administration faces a choice between suppressing bond yields or additional dollar printing, and that the former is more likely. Amit Goel, chief global strategist at PACE 360, echoed the view that Indian stocks and gold will rebound sharply and that a 25‑bp Fed hike will not move Nifty 50, which is projected to reach at least 25,500 by end‑2026. He also forecasted the Sensex to close 2026 near 80,000‑82,000 and gold prices around ₹1.58‑1.60 lakh per 10 g. Seema Srivastava of SMC Global Securities highlighted an "anti‑AI" trade as a signal of an upcoming AI blowout, which could further boost IT stocks and rate‑sensitive sectors like banking, real estate and auto. Goel recommended a 10‑stock portfolio featuring HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, SBI, Canara Bank, Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj Auto and Reliance Industries, the latter expected to hit ₹1,500 by December 2026.
Context
US inflation data often shape global capital flows; higher US yields can attract funds away from emerging markets, but if bond yields fall, Indian equities and commodities typically gain.
