A Paphos court fined father Joshua Foster 3,000 euro after his two‑year‑old son fell to his death from a fourth‑floor window at the King Evelthon Beach Hotel on 12 July. ## What Happened The boy slipped from a windowsill that Foster thought was closed while trying to show him a waterpark view. Foster placed the child on the sill, lost control and the child fell nearly 40 ft (12.1 m) to the ground. The incident happened around 18:00 as the family headed for an elevator on the first day of their holiday in Chlorakas. Police were called at about 18:40 and the child was taken to Paphos General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. ## Court Decision Foster, 37, of Essex, admitted causing death through a reckless, rash or dangerous act. He was sentenced on Friday morning and ordered to pay the fine. ## Reaction His lawyer Alexandros Alexandrou said Foster showed clear remorse and had no prior convictions. Foster told reporters he was grateful for support and hoped to return home to his wife and daughter. He had been held in custody for eight days and called his daughter from jail to explain the incident. Alcohol was found in his system but did not form a major part of the case. The court noted the window measured 2.85 m wide and 1.2 m high. ## Context Such accidents highlight the need for strict safety checks on hotel windows and balcony barriers.
