New health measures are being put in place for Barunguba Montague Island to protect local wildlife from the threat of bird flu. Authorities are taking steps as cases of the virus continue to spread across different regions in Australia.
Action Taken
Recent reports show that bird flu has been found in the south and east parts of Sydney, as well as in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven areas. In response to the growing danger, officials in the Northern Territory have also culled 5,500 feral pigs to stop the spread of the disease. Experts and animal owners remain on high alert as the virus affects both urban areas and important wetlands.
