A river in Australia that is home to about 500 saltwater crocodiles has been approved to host rowing and canoeing events for the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games. Saltwater crocodiles are the largest reptiles on the planet. The proposed venue is located on the Fitzroy River in Rockhampton, Queensland. This site recently passed an independent technical assessment that checked its suitability for the major sporting event. The assessment did not look at the crocodiles. Instead, experts studied how the course would perform under different weather patterns, water levels, and flood risks. They examined these conditions both during the actual Games and throughout the time leading up to the event.
