Katie Zacharia exits White House press secretary role after brief tenure

UPDATE - follow-up to Katie Zacharia picked as White House press secretary: Katie Zacharia is leaving her post as White House press secretary just five days after her first public briefing. US President Donald Trump told reporters he had advised her to reconsider taking the job, noting she had been treated nastily by the media. Zacharia faced intense media scrutiny following a brief Tuesday briefing that lasted under 15 minutes and included only three questions. During the appearance, she read talking points from a notebook and mistakenly referred to her husband as the president. Reporters also questioned her legal credentials after she gave an unclear response about passing the bar exam when asked where she took it. Zacharia admitted on Thursday that she did not pass the bar exam, though she stated she practised international transaction law in China with appropriate credentials. Conservative media figures, including Fox News host Sean Hannity, questioned her during interviews about her lack of preparation and legal background. Following her exit, Zacharia posted on X praising President Trump as hardworking and gracious, stating it was an honour to work for him. Democrats seized on the departure ahead of the November midterm elections, with House of Representatives leader Hakeem Jeffries posting on X that the administration continues to fall apart.
