Mahindra has officially entered India's CNG passenger vehicle market with the launch of the XUV3XO ZNG, priced from Rs 9.99 lakh. The range-topping REVX A ZNG variant is priced at Rs 12.27 lakh ex-showroom. Four trims are available in total, and the vehicle marks Mahindra's return to the CNG segment following the discontinuation of the KUV100 Trip.
Design and Interior
Externally, the ZNG variant looks identical to standard petrol models except for a tailgate badge. Inside, the REVX A ZNG manual variant keeps the same features as the petrol REVZ A trim, including a panoramic sunroof, TFT cluster, infotainment screen, dual-zone AC, wireless charger, and leatherette upholstery. The instrument cluster now displays CNG fuel levels, mileage data, and ETA information. The vehicle starts on petrol before automatically switching to CNG mode.
Space and Boot Capacity
Boot space measures around 270 litres on paper, preserved through a dual-cylinder setup that leaves room for two cabin suitcases and backpacks. The rear seats feature a 60:40 split to expand storage further. Additionally, the spare wheel is now moved below the boot floor, a feature previously offered only by the Tata Nexon i-CNG while omitted on the Maruti Brezza S-CNG.
Engine and Performance
Under the hood sits a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol MPFI engine paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, though no automatic option is available. The system uses a 10-bar pressure CNG injection system, which is the highest in its segment compared to rival systems operating at 5 or 6 bar. This setup maintains the petrol version's output of 114 PS of peak power and 200 Nm of peak torque. Mahindra promises a fuel efficiency of 24.7 km/kg and an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just under 12 seconds.
Suspension and Handling
To manage the extra weight of the CNG equipment, Mahindra re-tuned the rear suspension to mimic the ride quality of the XUV3XO Diesel. The clutch pedal has a springy feel without being heavy, and braking performance remains as confident as the petrol version.
Context
CNG vehicles have grown popular in India due to rising fuel costs and the need for lower running expenses. Automakers increasingly offer factory-fitted dual-cylinder setups to solve traditional space issues in the boot.
