Fiji declares national HIV emergency as infection rates surge

Fiji has declared a national emergency over HIV after infections rose sharply, prompting a rapid expansion of testing across the islands. Health officials say about one in 60 Fijians now live with the virus, a jump linked to a growing drug misuse problem. The government announced free, mobile testing units and increased clinic hours to reach remote communities. Tourism Minister Hon Mikiela Koroibula told reporters the country remains open to visitors, urging tourists not to avoid Fiji because of the health alert.
