West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has termed the Election Commission's decision to assign a new name and symbol to her faction as unconstitutional, illegal, and undemocratic, calling the internal dispute a black day in the history of Indian democracy. The Election Commission took this step after freezing the original party name, which directly impacted the ground campaign as her camp's Nandigram candidate withdrew their nomination. Under the new order, Banerjee's faction has been officially assigned the name Mamata All India Trinamool Congress along with the Football Player symbol, while rival factions received separate names and symbols.
