Maruti brings out new automatic CNG version of Baleno starting at Rs 8.32 lakh
Reported by Manish Reddy (Senior Writer) · Autocar India ·
Maruti has launched a new automated manual transmission option for the CNG-powered Baleno, with prices starting at Rs 8.32 lakh for the ex-showroom price in India. Buyers can choose this new automatic setup in two trim levels named Delta and Zeta, which matches the trim choices available for the older CNG-manual models. Under the hood, it runs on the Z12E 1.2-litre, three-cylinder engine connected to a 5-speed automated manual transmission. This setup puts out 70 horsepower and 102 Nm of torque, which is the exact same power output found in the petrol-manual version. Maruti claims that this new automatic CNG variant delivers a fuel efficiency of 34.4 kilometers per kilogram, making it slightly more efficient by 0.86 kilometers per liter compared to the standard CNG-manual variant. Unlike some newer models that use an underbody tank, the Baleno keeps its CNG tank and spare wheel inside the boot space. This placement leaves very little room for luggage in the back of the premium hatchback. In the current market, the only other car in this segment to offer a similar CNG-automatic setup is the Tata Altroz, which uses twin cylinders in the boot to leave 210 liters of luggage space. Apart from the new automatic gearbox and the change in fuel efficiency figures, all other features on the Baleno CNG-AMT remain identical to the manual versions.
