Namashi Chakraborty says his father Mithun Chakraborty started from zero and had to fight industry politics to become a star. In an interview with Screen, Namashi noted that Mithun came from a lower middle-class family with no wealth or options. He is currently part of the cast for Rajinikanth's Jailer 2.

Career and Studio Monopolies

Namashi highlighted his father's acting range, pointing out that his work in comedies like Golmaal 3 and Housefull 2, as well as Agneepath in 1990, proves his versatility. He also compared past and present industry conditions, stating that independent producers once made money with hits, but today only five major production houses run the business. He named Yash Raj Films, Dharma, Excel, Maddock, and Nadiadwala as the dominant firms, adding that big banners control releases and presentation for newcomers.

Childhood Memory

Sharing a childhood story, Namashi recalled crying during a trial screening of Mithun's 1996 hit film Muqaddar. In the climax, the villain played by Puneet Issar cuts off the hero's hand. Namashi was so distressed that he and his father had to leave the screening, leading Mithun to apologize to director Rajiv Babbar.

Context

Mithun Chakraborty remains a prominent veteran actor in Indian cinema with a career spanning decades and numerous commercially successful films. Discussions about industry monopolies and the decline of independent producers often highlight how high-budget distribution networks impact new talent and smaller filmmakers.
