Rain has not ruined festival plans so far, but the IMD has shared a major weather update for the festive period. Light chill may slowly enter the state's weather in the second half of October. However, if a low-pressure area forms over the Bay of Bengal during this time, it could slightly change the normal weather rhythm. According to IMD forecasts, weather in both South Bengal and North Bengal may remain mostly dry over the next two weeks, spanning from October 16 to October 29. Some areas might still see rain at the start of the week. Meanwhile, the weather department also sees the possibility of a low-pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal by the end of October. Forecasts indicate that a cyclonic circulation could form over the southeast Bay of Bengal and nearby Andaman Sea areas. Later, a low-pressure zone is likely to develop again in the southeast Bay of Bengal. Right now, officials cannot confirm the strength, path, or exact impact of this potential low-pressure system on the Bengal coast. Weather model updates will need to be monitored once the system forms. Weather in South Bengal will not see big changes from October 16 to October 22. Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms may hit a few areas in the first one to two days. Most places should experience mostly dry weather after that. North Bengal may also see light to moderate rain in some areas during the first half of the week. Rain chances will drop later, leaving the weather mainly dry. Temperatures will not change much in the first week either. Daytime highs and nighttime lows will stay roughly the same across both South Bengal and North Bengal. Dry weather will likely continue across most of South Bengal from October 23 to October 29, which falls after the festival. Coastal areas might still get isolated light to moderate rain or thunderstorms near the end of the week. North Bengal also faces mostly dry weather forecasts during this period. No continuous rain is currently indicated for most areas of North Bengal over the next two weeks. Temperatures may shift slightly. Seasonal trends suggest daytime maximum and nighttime minimum temperatures could drop a bit in both regions. This may bring a mild winter feel by late October. However, people should not expect strong winter chill just yet from this forecast.
Context
Weather patterns in Bengal during October often transition between the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon and the onset of cooler autumn conditions. Cyclonic circulations and low-pressure systems frequently form over the Bay of Bengal during this transitional phase. These seasonal shifts commonly influence coastal rainfall and post-festival temperature drops across the region.
