A convoy of a dozen supercars featuring six thousand horsepower has tested the brand-new six-lane Porvorim Elevated Corridor in Goa on a Saturday morning. Drivers and organizers arrived early at 7:07 am to find the new road completely empty before neighbors woke up to the collective roar of high-performance engines and watched from buildings with their cell phones.
The Supercar Lineup
Leading the charge was a bright red MG Cyberster with a dual-motor electric powertrain putting out 510hp and 725Nm. Right behind it was Andrew Dias in a Ferrari 458 with a naturally aspirated 4.5-litre V8 making 570hp. Darius Myles drove a Supernova Silver McLaren 750S with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 making 750hp, followed by Druan Myles in a pristine white Ferrari 296 GTB with a hybrid twin-turbo V6 pushing 830hp combined. Aaron Furtado brought a black Porsche Turbo S with an all-wheel-drive system, and Leroy Lobo drove a black Ferrari 296 GTS. During individual runs, Dave Myles showed a deep blue McLaren GTS with 635hp, Rohan Lobo drove a red Ferrari Roma with a 620hp V8, Xavier Furtado piloted another red 296 GTB, Joshua Lobo drove a red Lamborghini Huracán Spider with a 5.2-litre V10 making 610hp, and Oliver Furtado brought up the rear in a deep green Bentley Continental GT Speed.
Driver Reactions and Travel Time
Drivers called the test drive a unique experience, noting the ability to see real Goa from above, including green fields, water bodies, and palm trees. Later in the day, using the corridor on the way to Manohar International Airport cut the travel time down from over forty minutes to between twenty and thirty minutes.
Context
Elevated corridors and expressways are built in growing urban areas to bypass heavy traffic congestion and drastically cut down travel times for daily commuters. Test drives involving high-performance vehicles are often organized on newly paved infrastructure before it is officially opened to regular public traffic. Manohar International Airport, also known as Mopa Airport, serves northern Goa and relies on improved road links to connect with downtown areas.
