Rain delays and a wet outfield push back the start of the second men's cricket Test between South Africa and Australia at St George's Park in Gqeberha.
Play Begins
Play eventually starts at 12pm local time following a pitch inspection, but the match is soon interrupted again by light rain after 5.3. overs. South Africa reach 11 without loss, with Aiden Markram on 10 runs from 18 balls and debutant Ackerman on 1 run from 15 balls. Mitchell Starc bowls three overs conceding 10 runs, while Josh Hazlewood bowls 2.3 overs with two maidens and concedes just 1 run.
Team Changes
South Africa make several lineup adjustments for this match. Ackerman earns a spot after a strong first-class record, pushing Rickelton down the order to take over keeping duties from Verreyne. Verreyne drops out of the team following a poor run of form.
Context
Test cricket matches are frequently disrupted by weather conditions because damp pitches and wet balls create unsafe footing for fast bowlers and make batting unpredictable. Ground staff must ensure the playing surface is completely dry before play can resume to protect player safety.
