Mercedes-AMG has revealed the GT SUV, marking the brand's first full-size electric vehicle developed entirely in-house. Built on the same platform as the GT 4-Door Coupe, the five-seater is offered in GT 53, GT 55, and GT 63 variants.
Performance And Drivetrain
The range-topping GT 63 makes 1,169hp and 2,000Nm of torque, hitting zero to 100kph in 2.7 seconds. Tri-motor versions use axial-flux electric motors from UK firm Yasa, allowing full torque-vectoring with independent gearboxes for each rear motor. The GT 55 produces 805bhp and reaches 62mph in 3.1 seconds, while the entry-level GT 53 uses two conventional permanent magnet motors to output 536bhp and complete the 0-62mph sprint in 4.2 seconds. Mercedes-AMG claims a WLTP driving range of up to 700km and DC fast charging of up to 710kW.
Design And Features
Measuring 5,084mm long with a 3,040mm wheelbase, the SUV features an optional illuminated vertical-slat grille and Mercedes star. Inside, it packs a 10.2-inch instrument cluster, a 14-inch touchscreen, and an optional 14-inch passenger display alongside AMG Performance seats and a Burmester 4D audio system. Cargo space includes a 607-litre main boot and a 78-litre front trunk.
Availability
The entry-level GT 53 is already on sale in Germany starting at β¬113,050, while the GT 55 and GT 63 models will follow in spring 2027. Mercedes-AMG has not yet revealed any plans for an Indian launch.
Context
High-performance electric vehicles often lose power during heavy driving as their batteries and motors heat up. Mercedes-AMG aims to prevent this drop by using oil-cooled cells and an 800V system designed to keep power steady over long trips.
