Flight Cancellations
Air India and Air India Express have extended the suspension of their flights to and from Saudi Arabia until October 24 due to escalating geopolitical tensions in the region. The suspended services cover Jeddah, Riyadh, and Dammam. Earlier, Air India had cancelled flights until October 20, while Air India Express had suspended operations until October 17. According to News On AIR, passengers with confirmed bookings issued on or before October 15 for travel between October 9 and 25 can get a one-time complimentary date change up to November 10. Affected travellers may also choose to rebook from an alternative Gulf Cooperation Council station or opt for a full refund.
Wider Impact
Other carriers have also adjusted their schedules due to the regional situation. IndiGo extended the cancellation of its flights to Saudi Arabian cities until October 24. Akasa Air extended its suspension of flights to and from Riyadh until October 24 and to Jeddah until October 21. Tensions in West Asia have risen following attacks by Yemen's Houthis targeting civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, including the Riyadh airport.
Context
Flight routes in the Middle East often face disruptions when regional security concerns escalate near key airports. Airlines monitor these developments closely to protect passengers and aircraft from potential risks to civil aviation.
