A 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck Pakistan's Balochistan province on Saturday, October 17, 2026. The United States Geological Survey stated that the tremor hit near Khuzdar town at a depth of 13 kilometres, with its epicentre located 86 kilometres northeast of the town and reported 48 kilometres west-northwest of it. The earthquake struck at 6:30 am, shaking areas like Jhal Magsi, Jaffarabad, and Nasirabad. Tremors were also felt across several districts in the neighbouring Sindh province, including Sukkur, Qambar, Shahdadkot, and Dadu.

Context

Pakistan faces frequent earthquakes because the country lies across three major tectonic plates, which create five seismic zones. This geology makes the region prone to seismic activity, with a previous 5.6-magnitude quake hitting Balochistan earlier in February.
