Major Wajahat Waheed, a 34-year-old Pakistan Army officer, died on Oct 18 2026 when an IED exploded while he led a clearance operation in the Shadi Kaur area of Pasni, Gwadar district, Balochistan. The same day army units operating in Jattakabad, Kalat district, killed four terrorists and seized a large cache of arms and ammunition. The operations were part of a security sweep after intelligence reports of terrorist presence, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). A day earlier, forces had eliminated eight terrorists in coordinated raids across Quetta, Nushki and Khuzdar districts. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the troops for neutralising the four militants and expressed sorrow over Major Waheed’s sacrifice, calling him a brave son of the nation and offering condolences to his family while wishing him a promotion. The army reiterated its resolve to uproot foreign-sponsored terrorism in Balochistan, a province that has seen a rise in attacks in recent years. Sanitisation operations will continue to clear any remaining militants, officials said.
Context
Balochistan’s rugged terrain and porous borders have long made it vulnerable to insurgent groups, prompting regular military sweeps to disrupt networks and prevent attacks on civilians.
