At least 20 government soldiers were killed when Iranian‑backed Houthi rebels fired ballistic missiles at the al‑Alam military camp in Yemen’s southern Shabwa province on Monday, Oct 19, 2026. The attack also wounded roughly two dozen troops, officials said. Two Yemeni military officers, who asked to remain anonymous because they are not cleared to speak to the press, confirmed the figures. The al‑Alam camp houses forces of the internationally recognised Yemeni government, making it a frequent target in the ongoing conflict. Ballistic missiles were used, indicating a level of coordination and access to more advanced weaponry. The rebels have repeatedly claimed responsibility for strikes against government sites across the country.
Context
The Houthi movement, backed by Iran, has been engaged in a civil war against the Yemeni government since 2014, frequently launching missile attacks on military installations and civilian areas.
