What Happened

Umesh Kumar Chauhan, a 35-year-old detergent seller in Mumbai, was hit by a bullet while filming actor Tiger Shroff leaving a football venue in Juhu's Pushpa Park on Sunday. Chauhan had spent the past year and a half pursuing a dream of filming Bollywood celebrities, their homes, and fans to build an online audience. He and his fellow vlogger friend, Kisan Rajbhar, had filmed Shroff arriving, interacting with people, and leaving. When gunfire broke out as Shroff got into his vehicle, Chauhan was struck.

Medical Status

Chauhan was initially taken to Cooper Hospital and later transferred to KEM Hospital in Parel, where he remained in the intensive care unit under close observation. Doctors reported he was stable, with no further bleeding from a liver injury and no damage to his heart or lungs, opting to treat him without immediate surgery. Tiger Shroff sustained minor abrasions and was discharged from Nanavati Max Hospital, while his driver, Ibrahim Firdous, suffered a bullet injury to his left hand along with a fracture and was scheduled for surgery.

Family Impact

Chauhan lives in Mankhurd with his six-year-old son, Arav, and his wife, who is eight months pregnant. His relative, Arvind Chaurasia, rushed to the hospital after learning of the shooting on the news, while Chauhan's parents booked train tickets from Uttar Pradesh. Family members kept the news from his pregnant wife until Monday morning, and doctors advised her not to visit the hospital due to health risks.

Context

Celebrity culture in Mumbai often draws large crowds of fans and aspiring content creators to the homes and public appearances of Bollywood stars. Incidents involving sudden security risks in crowded public areas highlight the unpredictable nature of crowd control around high-profile public figures. Medical professionals monitor patients with internal injuries closely in intensive care units to determine whether conservative treatment can avoid invasive surgical procedures.
