Apple has scheduled a product event for October 28 in Los Angeles, where the company will share press releases and host hands-on press demonstrations. While Apple has not officially confirmed specific device details, reports indicate several major hardware updates are planned.

MacBook Pro and Mac Updates

The most anticipated hardware update is a new MacBook Pro featuring an OLED display and touch support. Available in 14-inch and 16-inch variants, these new laptops may include a Dynamic Island instead of the current notch, a stronger hinge, and a lighter build. The touchscreen will work alongside the keyboard and trackpad, supported by updates to macOS for touch gestures. Higher-end models may run on M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, while an entry-level 14-inch model could use the M6 chip. Additionally, a 24-inch iMac update featuring the M6 chip is expected, as the desktop has not seen major updates since October 2024.

iPad Mini and Release Timeline

Apple is also reportedly preparing to launch the iPad mini 8. This new tablet is expected to feature an OLED display, a fresh design, improved water resistance, a vibration-based speaker system without conventional openings, and a landscape-oriented front camera. It may use the A20 Pro chip and could cost more than the current US starting price of $599. Pre-orders are expected to begin on October 28 alongside the announcements, with products potentially becoming available as early as November 6, 2026.

Context

Apple frequently uses targeted press events and hands-on media sessions in locations like Los Angeles to showcase major hardware refreshes. Introducing touchscreen technology to MacBooks would mark a significant shift in company design strategy, moving away from past ergonomic concerns toward touch-enabled laptops.
