Maxi-style scooters have grown in popularity across India since early models like the Kinetic Blaze and Suzuki Burgman paved the way, bringing us to the latest face-off between the updated Aprilia SXR GT 175 and its top competitors: the Honda ADV160, Hero Xoom 160, and Yamaha Aerox 155.

Performance And Build

Despite its larger 174.7cc displacement and air-cooled engine, the Aprilia SXR GT 175 puts out 13.3hp at 7,200rpm, making it less powerful than its rivals which use liquid-cooled engines. The Honda ADV160 leads with 16.3hp, followed by the Yamaha Aerox 155 at 15hp and the Hero Xoom 160 at 14.8hp. However, the Aprilia delivers its peak torque of 14.14Nm faster at 6,000rpm, giving it an edge in city traffic. On the scales, the Yamaha is the lightest at 126kg with a top power-to-weight ratio of 119.05hp per tonne, while the Hero is the heaviest at 142kg.

Features And Pricing

When it comes to price, the Aprilia costs Rs 1.30 lakh ex-showroom, making it the most affordable option. The Hero Xoom 160 is priced at Rs 1.45 lakh, the Yamaha Aerox ranges from Rs 1.46 to 1.50 lakh, and the Honda ADV160 sits at the top at Rs 1.70 lakh. While Aprilia misses out on keyless ignition and traction control, it offers a modern TFT display alongside Honda. The Honda also stands out with exclusive E85 fuel compatibility and the largest underseat storage at 27 litres, though buyers pay a premium for these advantages.

Context

Maxi scooters blend the step-through convenience of regular two-wheelers with larger body styles, bigger engines, and features geared towards longer commutes. Choosing the right model often depends on balancing a lower price tag against engine power, fuel flexibility, and modern tech features.
