A 24-year-old man named Vineeth died in the early hours of Tuesday, October 20, 2026, when a speeding car crashed into an air-release valve of the Krishna drinking water pipeline near Nagole Metro Station in Hyderabad.

What Happened

The crash happened around 4 a.m. near Metro Pillar Nos. 813 and 814 on the Uppal-Nagole route. The car rammed into the iron fencing protecting the Phase-2 pipeline valve, sending a massive jet of water more than 20 feet into the air. Thousands of litres of water flooded surrounding roads and caused severe traffic jams, while police and fire services personnel rushed to the site.

Impact And Repairs

The damage disrupted drinking water supply to numerous areas across Hyderabad, including Uppal, Vanasthalipuram, Ramanthapur, Begumpet, Secunderabad, and Cantonment. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board shut down relevant pumps immediately. Transmission, Operations and Maintenance departments launched emergency repairs under the direction of Managing Director K. Ashok Reddy, fixing the valve and restoring supply within five hours.

Context

Major municipal water pipelines often run alongside busy urban arterial roads to distribute drinking water across large metropolitan areas, making critical surface infrastructure vulnerable to road accidents. Water boards maintain emergency response teams and backup pumping controls to quickly isolate damaged network sections and minimize supply disruptions during such unexpected incidents.
