Salman Khan was spotted at Mumbai's private airport on Tuesday morning with armed Special Protection Unit officers beside him. The heavy security follows an assassination attempt on actor Tiger Shroff on October 18, which left three suspects in police custody. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, after meeting Tiger at his residence, promised a review of security for all celebrities and said steps are already under way. Khan's protection has been strengthened because he has received threats from gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, whose gang claimed responsibility for earlier attacks. An unverified voice message circulated after the Tiger incident, naming Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu as taking responsibility and warning anyone who opposes the gang or works with Khan. In April 2024 gunshots were fired at Khan’s Mumbai residence, Galaxy Apartments, an act also linked to the Bishnoi gang. In October of the same year politician and Khan’s close friend Baba Siddiqui was shot dead, and a police chargesheet later suggested his proximity to Khan may have made him a target. The film industry remains on edge as officials and stars monitor the rising gang intimidation. ## Context Gang intimidation of Bollywood personalities has risen in recent years, leading police and state officials to tighten protection for high‑profile figures. The Special Protection Unit is an elite force assigned to guard individuals under threat.
