Karnataka BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra stated on October 20 that dissidence inside the ruling Congress party has reached a flashpoint, claiming that senior leaders and MLAs are set to rebel against Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.

Political Claims and Drought Response

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru after Ayudha Pooja celebrations at the BJP office, Mr. Vijayendra alleged that Mr. Shivakumar is blaming the Centre to divert public attention because his political base is shaking. However, he ruled out any BJP attempts to topple the government, stating that the party will remain in the opposition for the remaining term of one-and-a-half years. He also accused the administration of failing to handle the drought gripping the State and failing to execute development work in the three-and-a-half years it has been in power.

Party Matters and Farmers

Mr. Vijayendra indicated the BJP might reconsider boycotting an all-party delegation expected to visit Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi for drought relief funds. Regarding his recent unexpected meeting in Hubballi with expelled leader Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, he stated people should wait and watch. Furthermore, addressing sugarcane farmer protests, he noted that a committee has been formed after Union Minister Pralhad Joshi discussed the matter with Union Minister Shivaraj Singh Chauhan, who is expected to visit Karnataka.

Context

Political tensions frequently rise in state politics over drought relief funding and administrative performance. All-party delegations to New Delhi are a common method used by state governments to lobby the central government for financial assistance during natural calamities.
