Singer Mika Singh has publicly defended his brother Daler Mehndi after a minister interrupted the veteran artist's live show in Uttarakhand and accused him of drinking alcohol.
The Incident
Daler Mehndi was performing on October 18 at the annual Siddhpeeth Maa Kunjapuri Tourism and Development Fair in the Tehri district. During the set, Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister and local MLA Subodh Uniyal walked onto the stage and interrupted the music. The minister questioned Daler's singing ability, raised questions about his performance fee, and alleged that the singer was under the influence of alcohol.
Mika's Defense
On October 20, Mika shared a video message on social media to address the event alongside a Dussehra greeting. Mika defended his brother by noting that Daler has been a superstar for thirty years and pointing out that no one has ever seen him holding a glass of alcohol. Mika explained that Daler's poor stage performance or trouble standing was due to a recent major operation from which he is still recovering. He also stressed that performers often honor their work commitments even when they are sick.
Media Criticism
Mika called the on-stage treatment disappointing and asked if anyone would ever dare treat an international band like Coldplay in that manner. He urged media organizations to verify allegations and allow artists to share their side before publishing claims that can ruin reputations.
Context
Public figures often face intense scrutiny and pressure to maintain high performance standards during live public events. Incidents like this highlight the challenges artists face when balancing professional commitments during periods of poor health.
