Political Friction
The Revolutionary Marxist Party has publicly opposed the Kerala government's stand in the High Court regarding the CMRL-Exalogic payoff case. The case involves Opposition leader and CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Pinarayi Vijayan, his daughter T. Veena, and her husband P.A. Mohamed Riyas. K.K. Rema, a Vadakara MLA and RMP leader, stated in a social media post that the government position undermines its own declared stance against corruption.
RMP Criticisms
While the government initially decided to form a special investigation team to look at Enforcement Directorate evidence rather than register an immediate case based only on its report, the RMP objected to its later stand before a High Court Division Bench. Mr. Vijayan had appealed a Single Judge order that directed the registration of a corruption case and a probe by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau. RMP State secretary N. Venu also stated that the government's stand goes against public wishes. He alleged that the Advocate General ridiculed the complainant, K.M. Shajahan, while supporting Mr. Vijayan's arguments.
Context
The Revolutionary Marxist Party is an outside ally that supports the Congress-led United Democratic Front in Kerala, particularly in the Kozhikode district and Vadakara area. This marks the first time the RMP has openly disagreed with the government stance on an issue. Following the court order, the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau registered two FIRs related to the matter.
