UPDATE - follow-up to 'We are on our way to groundbreaking science': NASA shares first test image from Roman telescope's 300-megapixel camera - Live Science: NASA's new $4.3 billion space telescope could now operate for up to 22 years because it used much less fuel than expected during its first course correction. The space agency originally budgeted 200 kilograms of fuel for this maneuver, but the telescope used far less. When combined with extra fuel loaded before launch and further expected savings, this efficiency could more than double the telescope's original 10-year lifespan to at least 22 years. The 300-megapixel telescope sits one million miles away, where NASA has also activated its primary instrument and checked out the coronagraph following its first successful test images.
