Scientists have found a brand new crater on the Moon that measures 222 metres across, making it the largest newly formed crater ever discovered in our solar system. The massive mark on the lunar surface is bigger than the Roman Colosseum and spans 728 feet in width. Experts describe the event that caused it as a once-in-a-lifetime or once-in-a-century impact.
Discovery Details
The huge indentation was discovered during a routine quality check on a Moon map. Researchers noticed a bright spot surrounded by a dark halo on the lunar terrain. NASA's Moon orbiter spotted the feature, which definitely did not exist before the spring of 2024.
