Perth man arrested after carrying weapon near lawmaker office

Police arrested a man in Perth after he allegedly made threats and carried nunchucks outside the electorate office of state lawmaker Hannah Beazley. Officers received a call to the office in Victoria Park in the early afternoon and later caught the suspect in the nearby area of Bentley.

What Happened

The suspect reportedly demanded to see Beazley during the incident, though he failed to get inside to reach her. Beazley stated that her office employees faced a very difficult situation and felt shaken and upset by the event, though thankfully nobody suffered any injuries. Police arrested the man shortly after the incident took place.

Context

Electorate offices serve as local connection points where lawmakers meet everyday citizens to hear community concerns. Security around public officials and their staff remains a key concern following recent violent incidents involving political figures in other regions.
