Announced on 22 September 2026, the device combines ChromeOS features in a desktop-based way with Android connectivity so users can move settings, saved passwords, Wi-Fi networks and messages using end-to-end encryption. The first lineup of manufacturers includes Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo, while Qualcomm has confirmed that the Snapdragon X Elite chip will power Googlebook models from specific makers.
Hardware and Features
The laptops are made from aluminium, magnesium alloy and carbon fibre, with select models offering up to a 2.8K OLED display, haptic glass trackpads and backlit keyboards. They provide up to 14 hours of battery life and include dedicated NPUs delivering over 45 TOPS of power for real-time AI processing. The Glowbar feature returns with animation, battery status and Gemini response capabilities. Software tools like Magic Pointer, Rambler, Create My Widget, Continue On, Files and Cast My Apps help users transition between phones and desktops, access phone files, and run mobile apps on desktop windows.
Software and Security
Googlebook combines the desktop Chrome browser and extensions with access to Android applications from the Play Store, including programs like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom and CapCut, offline streaming services, and thousands of Android games with a one-year GeForce NOW subscription. The devices also feature the Antigravity AI development platform and a terminal environment for coding. Security relies on ChromeOS architecture, a Google Titan hardware root of trust, malware detection, and a hypervisor with a Level 5 security certification for an isolated Linux environment.
Availability
Pre-orders are currently open via the Google Store, Best Buy and select retailers. Official launches are scheduled for October 4 in the United States and October 5 in Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia.

What Happened
Google has announced a new laptop category called Googlebook, which integrates ChromeOS, Android connectivity, and Gemini AI starting at a price of $899.
Why It Matters
This new hardware category bridges the traditional gap between mobile operating systems and desktop computers. By embedding deep device-level AI processing power via dedicated NPUs and allowing native Android apps to run seamlessly on a desktop environment, it changes how users handle cross-device productivity, file sharing, and software development.
What Happens Next
Pre-orders are open now, ahead of official retail rollouts starting October 4 in the United States and October 5 across several international markets. Market response and user adoption will determine whether this combined Android-ChromeOS laptop standard expands further among major hardware manufacturers.
