Couple attacked by locals after returning from a pilgrim spot in Odisha's Dhenkanal district. A video of the assault circulated on social media on Tuesday, prompting police action. The victims were riding a motorcycle with another passenger, part of a group of four visitors from Cuttack district who had gone to the religious site. An argument between a member of the crowd and a local youth escalated when the youth called relatives, who then chased and assaulted the couple. The couple asked the assailants to release them, but the group continued the assault. Police say the two detained suspects belong to the same family that intervened. Dhenkanal Superintendent of Police Abhinav Sonkar confirmed an FIR has been filed and the investigation is ongoing, with more suspects being checked. The couple filed a zero FIR at Gondia police station, and charges have been framed under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita covering molestation, criminal force against a woman, and violations of the Information Technology Act. The incident follows recent reports of teen harassment in Bihar's Jamui district, where a boy was beaten and a girl molested. Authorities are reviewing the exact time of the attack and the role of other participants. The video was recorded by a by‑stander and uploaded online, bringing public attention to the case. Police have pledged to arrest the remaining attackers soon.
