Italian motorcycle maker Ducati has launched the new Hypermotard V2 in India, coming in as a replacement for the discontinued Hypermotard 950. The standard model carries a price tag starting at Rs 16.53 lakh, while the higher-end SP version is priced from Rs 20.78 lakh. Bookings for both variants are currently open at dealerships across the country.
Upgrades And Specs
The motorcycle runs on a new 890cc, liquid-cooled, V-twin engine that puts out 120.4 horsepower and 94Nm of torque. Compared to the older 950 model, the new motor gains 6 horsepower while dropping 2Nm of torque, and it also features a 10mm wider rear tyre. Factory tyres have been upgraded from Diablo Rosso III to Rosso IV, and the front braking setup now uses Brembo M4.32 calipers. The standard bike uses a fully adjustable KYB 46mm front fork and a rear monoshock, and comes with a stock seat height of 880mm that can be lowered down to 850mm using optional accessories. Standard electronic rider aids include a five-inch TFT display, power modes, and a bi-directional quickshifter.
SP Variant
The SP model brings several distinct additions, including Ohlins suspension units at both the front and rear, along with Pirelli Rosso IV Corsa tyres. Without fuel, the SP version has a kerb weight of 177kg, which is 3kg lighter than the standard version. While the base motorcycle comes in Ducati Red paint, the SP version sports a special livery featuring a '20' decal to mark 20 years since the original model debuted at EICMA in 2005.
Context
Motorcycle manufacturers often update their product lineups to meet tighter emission norms while offering better performance and modern electronics. The introduction of the V2 engine family across various Ducati models reflects a broader shift toward lighter frames and more compact power plants. Performance motorcycles in this category generally cater to enthusiasts looking for track-capable handling combined with street usability.
