Polling parties left the Mathura collectorate on Thursday for various voting centres across the district for the Agra division graduate and teacher constituency MLC elections. District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh said that sending out the polling teams began on Thursday morning so that voting can start on time.
Polling Details
Voting will take place on Friday from eight in the morning until four in the evening. The district has set up 19 voting places and 15 polling centres for the graduate constituency, along with 19 voting places and 15 polling centres for the teacher constituency. The final voter lists show 10,669 voters in the graduate constituency, including 7,175 men and 3,494 women. The teacher constituency has 6,694 total voters, featuring 4,315 men and 2,379 women.
Administration
Voters must prove their identity by showing an elector photo identity card, Aadhaar card, driving licence, PAN card, Indian passport, or another alternative identity document approved by the election commission. To keep the process fair and smooth, the administration has deployed seven zonal magistrates, 17 sector magistrates, and 41 micro observers. Around 168 personnel across 42 polling teams, which includes reserves, will manage the election duties. Across Uttar Pradesh, MLC elections are taking place for 11 seats, covering five graduate and six teacher constituencies.
Context
MLC elections in Uttar Pradesh involve registered graduates and teachers rather than the general public. These legislative council seats draw heavy campaign efforts from major political parties like the BJP and Samajwadi Party because they serve as an indicator of political mood before wider state elections.
