Stars Gather for IIFA 2027 Press Event as Salman Warns Paparazzi and Pankaj Tripathi Admits Stage Nerves

Event Details and Star Warnings

Actor Salman Khan issued a strict warning to paparazzi at the press conference for the 27th edition of the International Indian Film Academy awards, telling them not to take back shots of any actress. He also poked fun at Varun Dhawan's hosting skills along with his own upcoming film Sikandar. The event, held in Mumbai, brought together several Bollywood stars including Shahid Kapoor in an all-white outfit, Varun Dhawan, and glamorous appearances by Kareena Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna. Kareena also shared a warm hug with Shahid Kapoor.

Hosts Announced

Four stars will lead the main awards ceremony on January 23, 2027, with filmmaker Karan Johar, actor Varun Dhawan, actress Ananya Panday, and host Manish Paul taking charge of the main stage. This marks the first time a four-member team will anchor the main IIFA event together. Meanwhile, Pankaj Tripathi and Ali Fazal will host the digital awards night a day prior on January 22, with Tripathi admitting he feels scared because he speaks very slowly and calmly.

Background

IIFA began in the year 2000 with its first ceremony held on June 24 at London's Millennium Dome, where Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam won best film. The awards expanded from a single-night event into a three-day celebration that travels to different global and domestic cities each year, though the 2021 edition was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic and winners were announced on Instagram.

Context

Award shows like IIFA travel to different countries globally to celebrate Hindi cinema outside India and connect with international audiences. Major film events require extensive planning, involving multiple celebrity hosts and digital platforms to reach fans across the world.
