A 27-year-old woman faces charges following a shooting that injured a police officer in Nottingham city centre.

Charges and Court Appearance

Nottinghamshire Police stated the officer approached two suspects at a bus stop on Angel Row shortly before 04:50 BST on Sunday. The injured male officer remains in hospital for treatment. Aisha Zaman, who lives on Collison Street in Hyson Green, is charged with possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of that firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence. Police filed the charges after consulting with the Crown Prosecution Service. Zaman remains in custody and will appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Arrests and Investigation

Authorities have arrested several other people in connection with the case. Two men aged 24 and 30, along with two women aged 25 and 21, were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Additionally, a 35-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and assisting an offender; both remain in police custody. Detective Chief Superintendent Rich Bull, who leads the investigation, thanked the public for their support and stated that officers continue to follow multiple lines of inquiry.

Context

Police forces in the United Kingdom rarely face armed confrontations, making firearm incidents involving law enforcement officers particularly rare and subject to intensive investigations. Officers investigating such cases typically rely on public appeals and CCTV footage to trace suspects and understand the sequence of events leading up to the violence.
