Court Relief
A court in Jhansi has cancelled an arrest warrant issued against actor Rakhi Sawant in a legal case connected to a man's death over a decade ago. The warrant was withdrawn after her legal team presented a stay order from the Allahabad High Court. Advocate Ashu Singh stated that the defence moved an application with the high court document, prompting the civil judge to cancel the order.
The Original Case
The legal matter stems from an incident in November 2010 when a 24-year-old local resident named Laxman Ahirwar died by suicide. His mother filed a police complaint at the Prem Nagar station, accusing the television personality of pushing her son toward taking his life. The complaint claimed the young man suffered severe distress due to insulting remarks made on the reality program Rakhi Ka Insaaf. Court records show that Laxman and his wife Anita had appeared on the programme due to marital problems after she had moved back to her parents' home.
Context
Legal proceedings in India can stretch across many years, often involving multiple levels of courts from local magistrates up to high courts. When a higher court grants a stay order, it temporarily pauses ongoing lower court actions while legal arguments continue, which is what protected the celebrity from immediate arrest in this long-standing dispute.
