Singer Daler Mehndi is doing well and is in top health, according to his son, Gurdeep Mehndi, following a recent public row during a live show. The clarification comes after a concert at a Navratri event in Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, on the evening of Sunday, October 18, ran into trouble when Uttarakhand Minister Subodh Uniyal interrupted the set halfway through. The minister alleged that the singer was intoxicated, performing poorly despite a high fee, and lip-syncing rather than singing live.
Reactions
The incident triggered a sharp division among celebrities and public figures. Actor Rajpal Yadav defended the musician by stating that he does not consume alcohol and had actually been unwell during the show, which might have affected his stage output. Daler's brother and fellow singer Mika Singh also strongly condemned the minister's actions in a public post directed at Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Mika noted that Daler honoured his commitment by playing a full ninety-minute set, pointing out that another booked artist, Sunanda Sharma, could not make it, and argued that performers deserve basic dignity and polite communication rather than public humiliation.
Resolution
Later on Thursday evening, October 22, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami appealed for the dispute to end. Dhami stated that Minister Uniyal had clarified his stance and intended no insult, noting that the minister was unaware of the performer's underlying health issues at the time. The Chief Minister also spoke with Mika over the phone to emphasize that any differences should be settled cordially through discussion while preserving mutual respect.
Context
Public events featuring prominent performers often draw intense media scrutiny and quick political reactions when disputes arise on stage. State leaders frequently step in to mediate such conflicts to maintain smooth cultural ties and ensure public venues remain welcoming for visiting artists.
