India's young population is increasingly replacing smartwatches with traditional timepieces, led by growing demand for Casio G-Shock watches. Casio India Managing Director Takuto Kimura notes that everyday consumers are moving back to traditional or analogue-hybrid options to escape constant connectivity and screen notifications.

The New 2500 Series

Casio has launched its G-Shock 2500 series in India, aligning with a global rollout. The new collection features fully analogue designs with no screens, digital readouts, or Bluetooth connections. Prices in India range from Rs 9,995 up to Rs 26,995. The line draws inspiration from the original G-Shock's octagonal shape and features a minimalist analogue dial similar to the GA-2100 model known as the CasiOak.

Design and Features

The 2500 series introduces a new quartz module, the 5757, which powers a fan-shaped Multi-Mission Date display at the 3 o'clock position. This display serves a dual purpose by showing the date in standard mode and elapsed time in stopwatch mode. The watches also feature a magnetic shock-release minute hand that stays secure using magnets. The collection includes nine watches in monochrome resin and metal-clad finishes that retain standard shock resistance.

Context

Smartwearables have dominated the personal tech market for years, but a counter-trend is emerging among consumers seeking relief from digital fatigue. Traditional watchmakers are capitalizing on this shift by offering minimalist, screen-free alternatives that double as fashion accessories.
