Ryan Gosling has revived his band Dead Man's Bones, announcing new music to drop on October 27.
Announcement
The Los Angeles‑based duo of Gosling and musician Zach Shields posted an Instagram video on Thursday night. A haunting voice recites a poem about ghosts, shadows and the night before a young girl announces the release date. The release will be the first new material in 17 years, following their self‑titled debut album in 2009.
Background
Gosling’s partner, actress Eva Mendes, earlier teased the comeback on social media, writing, "Trying to summon new music from Dead Man's Bones" and later, after the announcement, "He came through on his promise to me." The actor‑musician is known for musical moments in films such as the jazz pianist Sebastian in La La Land (2016) – which earned him a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy – and the Ken‑song "I'm Just Ken" in Barbie (2023). He performed that track live at the 2024 Oscars to a standing ovation.
Context
Reviving a long‑dormant musical project is a notable move for a film star, showing how actors often explore parallel creative paths beyond the screen.
