Car sales across fourteen major manufacturers reached 26,36,926 units during the first half of fiscal year 2027, marking a growth of 27.16 percent compared to the same period last year. Maruti and Tata drove most of this expansion, accounting for roughly 71 percent of the total volume added year-on-year.
Manufacturer Performance
Maruti sold 10,80,240 units with a market share of 40.97 percent, supported by high-volume models like the Dzire, WagonR, and Ertiga. Tata registered 3,76,840 units, growing 42.73 percent to finish ahead of Mahindra. Meanwhile, Nissan recorded the fastest percentage growth among all listed brands, surging 128 percent to 20,401 units. Only Volkswagen and Jeep saw declines in their sales volumes during this half-year period.
Context
Car sales data for the April to September period serves as a key indicator of consumer demand ahead of the crucial festive shopping season in India. Tracking half-yearly performance helps manufacturers adjust their production schedules and plan new vehicle launches for the remainder of the financial year.
