The N. Chandrababu Naidu government has allocated nearly ₹500 crore for development projects in Vizianagaram, TDP MLA Aditi Vijaya Lakshmi announced on Friday. She said the funds target civic infrastructure such as roads, drainage and street lights across all routes to improve living conditions in the Fort City and its new outskirts. The announcement came during an interactive session with Chamber of Commerce president Kapuganti Srinivas, Rotary Club president Nirmal Kumar Jain, CREDAI State vice‑president K.C.S. Bose and other local leaders. TDP mayoral candidate Avanapu Bhargavi attended the meeting and later campaigned in Kothapet on Thursday night alongside MSME Minister Kondapalli Srinivas and MLA Lakshmi. Bhargavi highlighted that her father‑in‑law, former municipal chairperson Avanapu Suribabu, had previously developed Vizianagaram and urged trade bodies to back the party in the upcoming elections. Present at the gathering were Rotary Club Central president Godavarthi Jagadeesh, secretary Battula Chandu, Balaji Market president Buddepu Venkateswara Rao, AP Hotels Association president G. Srinivasa Rao, TDP senior leader Avanapu Vijay and BJP leaders Ravva Srinivas and Ravva Manju.
Context
Vizianagaram, often called the Fort City, has been a focus of state development initiatives. Large infrastructure spending ahead of local elections is a common strategy to garner voter support.
