Tata Trusts and the board of Tata Sons were not told about a business deal between the family of Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran and TVS Motor Company. A Tata Trusts spokesperson stated that no disclosures were made to the trustees regarding Hanno One Warehousing, Hanno Infra, and TVS Motor by Venu Srinivasan, who serves as the Chairman Emeritus of TVS Motor and is a director on the Tata Sons board. The Trusts indicated that the Tata Sons board was also kept in the dark about this arrangement. This development follows a September 17, 2026, board meeting where Srinivasan backed the reappointment of Chandrasekaran for another five years despite opposition from Trusts Chairman Noel Tata, bringing up questions about a potential conflict of interest. Hanno One Warehousing was set up in March 2025 with Chandrasekaran's wife Lalitha Chandrasekaran and son Pranav Chandrasekaran as its directors. Within months, the firm signed a land-lease deal with TVS Motor in June 2025 for about 17 acres of land at Uddanapalli village in Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu, to build a large warehouse at a cost of roughly 106.3 crore rupees. A top Tata Group source close to Chandrasekaran defended the move, calling it a private venture by his son who came back from the US, adding that it has nothing to do with the Tata group and that Chandrasekaran had told his son not to do business with Tata companies. The source also mentioned that trustees are not required to disclose their business arrangements to Tata Trusts and that Chandrasekaran had shared this matter with various Tata Group companies, meaning Srinivasan was not required to inform the Trusts about his businesses. Tata Trusts stated they will look at the situation and act properly if the allegations turn out to be true.
