The Telangana Junior Doctors Association has asked the state government to run a safety and infrastructure check on all government medical facilities. The request follows a fire at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Adilabad that killed five infants, and a ceiling collapse at MGM Hospital in Warangal that hurt three patients.
Areas For Review
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the doctors said these events show ongoing problems with maintenance, funding, and safety systems. The proposed check should cover medical colleges, district hospitals, primary health centers, ICUs, emergency rooms, and operation theatres. The group wants checks on electrical systems, fire safety, lifts, and water facilities, with fixes done in a set time frame.
Other Demands
The association also asked the state to speed up work on the Warangal Super Specialty Hospital and finish it within one month. They want better hostels for medical students and nursing trainees, along with safe housing, security guards, and CCTV cameras for workers in remote areas. The group also pointed out a shortage of vehicles at primary health centers, which disrupts emergency referrals and child health programs.
