Heart disease causes about 20 percent of all heart attack deaths worldwide, according to the World Heart Federation. Dr Sanjay Bhojraj, a board-certified cardiologist with over 25 years of experience who is turning 50, shared the personal routine he follows every day to lower his own heart attack risk. Dr Bhojraj stated that prevention is mostly about what a person repeats when nobody is watching. To keep active, he walks his dog every day or does other movement so that sitting does not become his default habit, noting the exercise does not need to be extreme. He also focuses on eating foods that support metabolic health because cardiovascular risk starts there, which helps the body process energy well. For physical strength, he works with a personal trainer and does consistent strength training. He explained that preserving muscle is a top priority for his heart-health plan as he approaches age 50, since regular resistance exercise helps lower resting blood pressure over time. In addition, he practices activities like music, breathing exercises, and meditation to calm his nervous system and escape the constant fight-or-flight stress reaction that can cause ongoing fatigue and anxiety.
