A man in his 30s has died after a blue car crashed through the glass entrance of a Lidl supermarket in Wolverhampton. West Midlands Police report the incident happened at Finchfield Hill shortly before 18:00 BST on Friday. A number of other people also required treatment for injuries at the scene, where the man was pronounced dead.

Emergency Response

West Midlands Fire Service sent four crews to the store at 17:51 BST, with two crews still working at the location at 20:05 BST alongside police and ambulance staff. Tina Bonev, a witness to the crash, described the event as absolutely terrifying and noted that shock and confusion followed the impact. Police cordoned off Finchfield Hill and Finchfield Road West, warning drivers that the roads would stay closed for some time.

Police Statement

Authorities stated the man's death is not being treated as suspicious, and their focus remains on supporting his family. Officers are staying at the site to help fire and ambulance workers with their ongoing checks.

Context

Major supermarkets and public buildings often have heavy glass frontages that can shatter completely upon high-impact vehicle collisions. Emergency services routinely secure surrounding roads for hours during such accidents to ensure public safety while conducting detailed forensic and rescue operations.
