The Tata Sierra EV AWD proves quicker than the larger Harrier EV AWD in real-world performance tests despite having less horsepower. Both five-seat electric SUVs use a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup pairing a front induction motor with a rear permanent magnet synchronous motor, alongside a 75 kWh battery capacity.

Performance And Specs

The Harrier EV produces a combined 313 horsepower with 504 Nm of torque, split between 158 horsepower at the front and 238 horsepower at the rear. The Sierra EV generates a combined 306 horsepower with an identical 504 Nm of torque, derived from 140 horsepower at the front and 209 horsepower at the rear. However, the Sierra EV weighs 2,130 kg, making it 205 kg lighter than the 2,335 kg Harrier EV. This gives the Sierra EV a better power-to-weight ratio of 143.7 hp per tonne compared to 134 for the Harrier EV, while the Harrier EV rides on wider 245-section tyres against the Sierra EV's 225-section rubber.

Acceleration And Braking

Tested in aggressive Boost mode, the lighter Sierra EV pulls ahead immediately, reaching 100 kph in 5.95 seconds compared to 6.74 seconds for the Harrier EV. The Sierra EV also completes the quarter-mile in 14.48 seconds, which is 0.61 seconds faster, and its 6.62-second Sport mode time beats the Harrier EV's best Boost mode time. In rolling acceleration, the Sierra EV covers 20 to 80 kph in 3.32 seconds and 40 to 100 kph in 3.96 seconds, outpacing the Harrier EV. Conversely, the Harrier EV features stronger regenerative braking across all four levels, stopping in shorter distances during 80 to 20 kph testing.

Pricing And Value

The Sierra EV AWD is offered exclusively in the top-spec Empowered AWD A 75 variant priced at Rs 25.99 lakh. This undercuts the starting price of the Harrier EV AWD by Rs 80,000, with the Harrier EV range extending up to Rs 29.29 lakh.

Context

Electric vehicle performance heavily depends on how efficiently a powertrain manages vehicle weight and power delivery rather than raw horsepower alone. Automakers often use shared modular electric platforms to adapt similar dual-motor setups across different body styles in their vehicle lineups.
