Bajaj has expanded its motorcycle range by launching the Pulsar N250SS, positioned right above the standard N250 model.

Performance And Gearbox

Both bikes run on a 249cc, air- and oil-cooled engine, but the new N250SS uses an updated four-valve head. This pushes output to 25hp and 22Nm of torque, compared to 24.5hp and 21.5Nm on the standard two-valve N250. The SS version also trades the standard five-speed gearbox for a six-speed unit. It includes a quickshifter for clutchless upshifts along with an electronic throttle body that enables riding modes.

Features And Pricing

The standard N250 uses a negative LCD screen, while the N250SS upgrades to a 5-inch TFT console. Additional features on the SS include adjustable levers, a USB Type-C charging port, a panic brake alert, and a hazard switch. The N250SS carries an ex-showroom Delhi price of Rs 1.59 lakh, which is Rs 14,000 higher than the Rs 1.45 lakh price tag of the standard N250. Even with this price bump, the new model stays cheaper than key competitors like the Suzuki Gixxer 250 priced at Rs 1.85 lakh and the Hero Xtreme 250R Carbon priced at Rs 1.98 lakh.

Context

Bike makers often launch sporty variants of existing models to offer buyers extra features and better performance without building a completely new motorcycle from scratch. This strategy helps brands compete closely in the mid-size motorcycle segment by giving customers more choices at different price points.
