Three people suffered injuries following a cylinder explosion at a godown in the Pattangere area of Rajarajeshwari Nagar, known as RR Nagar, in Bengaluru on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

The Incident

The injured include Bablu, a nine-year-old boy, and Lakshmamma, who lives in a neighbouring house. Police shifted all three victims to a private hospital for treatment after the blast. Preliminary information shows the incident took place at a godown owned by Bablu, a native of Bihar who has lived in Bengaluru for 20 years. He used the structure to store materials for his pani puri business, even though he owns a house elsewhere.

Cause and Investigation

A suspected gas leak from a cylinder occurred during the night, causing a fire to break out inside the closed godown and building up pressure. When Bablu arrived in the morning and opened the door, flames suddenly burst out and injured him along with the two other people nearby. Police and fire and emergency services personnel visited the location to inspect the spot, while authorities awaited further details on the exact cause and the condition of the injured.

Context

Incidents involving commercial storage of cooking gas cylinders in residential or semi-commercial areas often highlight local safety and fire compliance issues. Cooking gas leaks in enclosed spaces build up invisible flammable vapours that ignite instantly upon contact with fresh oxygen or a spark.
